Scripps College Data Breach (2008)

During a review of certain processes in the Scripps College financial aid office, it was discovered that an unauthorized individual not employed by the college may have had access to information relating to financial aid applications. the college discovered the potential issue in the last week of June. We sent this notice as soon as the college determine the scope of the potentially affected individuals. The information may have included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and other financial information related to the a defecation, and may have been in both paper and electronic form. Based on the investigation, it appears that a former employee acted in an unauthorized manner, during employment, by sharing certain application information with a financial a professional who is not employed or engaged by the college. The disclosure appears to of been for the purpose of attaining assistance in evaluating applications and preparing potential aid packages. The conduct occurred intermittently between 2008 and 2012.
