Fairfax County Public Schools Data Breach (2013)

laptop was taken on July 15 when an unidentified person broke into a school nurse's car. The laptop was health department -issued and was swiped from the vehicle along with a briefcase with paper student records as well. While the school nurse was technically allowed to keep the records in her car and at home, the nurse did violate protocol by not securing the files properly. Officials said that paper records are supposed to be in a locked briefcase separate from the laptop, and to add insult to injury, the electronic files themselves should never have been saved on the computer's hard drive.
