Description

A Troy man faces more than a dozen felony charges alleging he used the computer at a local hotel where he worked to make multiple purchases with customer’s credit card numbers. Court records show Troy police investigators arrested 28-year-old Jonathan Rofeal Collins on Monday, and charged him with 16 felony counts of identity theft. Records show police charged Collins with taking the personal information from a computer at the Econo Lodge where he worked as a front desk clerk. The charges also allege Collins used the information to make multiple purchases online and over the phone in the names used to rent rooms at the hotel. Records show the thefts and purchases started in October 2012 up to May of this year. Records also show the victims were from as many as seven different states from as far away as California to Michigan, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, Florida and Alabama. Records also show the purchases made through the identity thefts ranged from as little as $32.95 up to as many as 23 different transactions against one victim totaling $1,189.40. Records also show the fraudulent purchases made through the identity thefts exceeded more than $5,360. Collins was taken to the Pike County Jail and held on bail totaling $120,000.
