Attorney General Pam Bondi's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Miami-Dade County Police Department today arrested a former nursing home employee for exploitation of the elderly and disabled. Haymee Hernandez, 49, is a former employee at Claridge House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a nursing home located in North Miami. According to the MFCU investigation, while employed at the facility, Hernandez allegedly took ATM cards belonging to three elderly and disabled residents and spent more than $13,000 without the knowledge or consent of the residents. The facility terminated Hernandez's employment. The defendant faces three counts of exploitation of an elderly or disabled person and three counts of grand theft, all third-degree felonies. If convicted, the defendant faces up to 30 years in prison. The State Attorney's Office for the 11thJudicial Circuit is prosecuting the case.
